The Rotary Club of Timaru’s new President, Anne Carnie, is Timaru born and bred, an ex-pupil of Timaru Girls High School.

Anne’s work has always involved assisting people in the community including being a dental receptionist and working in the Labour and Social Welfare Departments.  For the past twenty years Anne has been a nationwide Health and Disability Advocate, empowering people in the community to achieve better health outcomes.

Ann and her partner Fiona, a nurse, have been together for 25 years. They have two sons, sadly losing one as a teenager in a car accident; the other is a chef/painter/decorator.

Anne was asked to join Rotary ten years ago, her father having been a member of the Timaru Club. She saw Rotary as a way of making contacts and friends and of giving back to the community. She said “ I never ever thought I’d ever be President’ , and a fellow Rotarian gave her the good advice that “you need to have the time, to fit the role around your work and family and to also have time for yourself”.

Anne has been a director and on most of the club committees and she is excited about her new role. She wants to consolidate the new ideas of the Innovate and Flexible Pilot Project and to bring both the older and newer members into the 21st century with technology. She feels that the new ClubRunner Club website will be a real asset in coming up to speed with these changes. She also wants to include spouses and families more, as they often provide the manpower for our various projects. Introducing new members is also a priority.

When Anne has any spare time, she enjoys travelling, gardening, fishing and photography.
