President Peter's Message
William Pike : - All passion, no limits
William Pike is a proud Kiwi, fanatical sportsman and a role model to thousands of youth. Losing a leg after being trapped in a volcanic eruption on Mt Ruapehu has not changed William’s outlook on life, nor has it stopped him from doing the things that he loves. He climbs mountains, goes bushwalking, scuba diving, hunting and kayaking. An impassioned teacher, he leads a nationwide youth development programme called the William Pike Challenge Award teaching Kiwi kids they, too, can do anything they put their minds to. This sought-after motivational speaker believes developing our future generations of New Zealanders is critical and he recently gave an inspirational talk to school children at the Mountainview High School auditorium. This presetation was organised by our Youth Committee and Sarah Davis, and in spite of it being a very wet night, it was an excellent evening with a good attendance from several local schools.

Reconvening Of The Adjourned First Part Of AGM
President Peter wis to reconvene the adjourned 1st part of the club AGM on Tuesday to formally move that the Rotary club of Timaru members agree to the clubs Nominations committee recommendation.
Motion: that club member Bev Slooten become Club President for the 2019/2020 Rotary year.

Once again we have been asked for volunteers to help out with security "within" the maze (yes, this year some of us will actually be "in the maze" itself) and manning the front gate.
Dates are: 16th/17th Feb, 24th Feb, 2nd/3rd March and 9th/10th March. Times 8.30pm-11.30pm and they are
asking for between 7-12 people on each date.

An Outing To The Movie "Breathe"
Social outing to movie Breathe on Wednesday February 28th at 7.00pm. This is an excellent true story about Robin and Diana Cavendish, an adventurous young couple, who refuse to give up in the face of the devastating diagnosis of Robin’s polio at just 28. Robin and Diana dare to escape the hospital ward to seek out a full life together, raising their young son, traveling and devoting their lives to helping other polio patients. The film is produced by Robin’s son and is very relevant for Rotary with our End Polio campaign. Special price of $8.00 per person. I’ve booked the 78 seat theatre, so invite friends and family! I’ve also mentioned it to Rotary North. Suggestion that we go to Zest or Coffee Culture after the film. Kirsten Patterson (known as KP) is the Institute of Directors Chief Executive. Formerly the Country Head of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, she is a qualified lawyer and Chartered Fellow of the Human Resources Institute of New Zealand. She has extensive governance and leadership experience, and is actively involved in community initiatives.
A strong advocate of diversity, KP was one of the founding members of Global Women’s ‘Champions for Change’, a group of senior executives and directors who commit to diversity in the workplace. She is also a founding member of WiSPA, an organisation promoting women in sport, and mentors a number of business leaders and an ex-Olympic athlete.
The 8th March is International Women’s Day, so we are celebrating with Kirsten coming all the way from Wellington to address us. It will be a great evening and we hope as many of you as possible can attend
