This week was an “extra” meeting scheduled to fit in with District Governor Dave McKissock’s itinerary for club visits, and it was a pleasure to welcome Dave and his wife Margaret, to our meeting.
It was a huge honour to be presented with the Rotary Citation from DG Dave, on behalf of Phil Gully, the DG for 2023-24. The official wording on the letter received from Rotary International, is:
“Congratulations! Your club has earned the Rotary Citation, the most significant award a Rotary club can achieve, for 2023-24. This past year, your club demonstrated a commitment to achieving its goals, which ultimately helps strengthen Rotary and shape our future. Once again, congratulations on a successful year as club president!”
This was made even more special when we learned there were only four awarded in the whole of D9999.
Well done and thank you to each one of you for your efforts contributing to this amazing achievement.
DG Dave shared his goals and vision for 2024-25 and spoke to us on “The Magic of Rotary”. He has issued a challenge for us to collaborate with other Rotary clubs in our area and plan for a “Weekend of Connection” to be held in Timaru 15th and 16th February 2025, which will involve a “hands on project” we can all participate in over the course of the weekend. Thinking caps on!! A seed of possibility has been suggested so we will follow up and keep you posted.
Dave reiterated the Rotary theme from 2009-10 “The Future of Rotary is in your Hands” and the 2024-25 theme “The Magic of Rotary” and the synergy between the two. Most of all, the goal is to make Rotary a fun experience.
On Wednesday Dave also joined in with the team down at the wood project and got some first-hand experience of the action.
This weekend will see the Hot Dog caravan in action at Pleasant Point when two games will be played, one in the “Heartland championship”, so we could be in for a busy day.
