 President Lynette's Message

Hi Everyone,

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure and privilege of welcoming Shayne Broughton as the newest member of our club, followed by the 2nd part of the 96th AGM for our club.

The following actions were adopted as part of the AGM:

Club President 2024/2025:         Lynette Wilson

Club President-Elect 2024/25:        Lionel Wilson

Club Directors 2024-25:        Emma Walton-Wooding & Jenny Ensor

Club Directors for 2025/2026 & 2026/2027 year are yet to be nominated.

Club Secretary:                 Lionel Wilson

Club Treasurer:                Michael Parr

The Charitable Trust of Timaru Rotary Club Trustees – Two new Trustees were appointed for a three-year term – Russell Finlay and Chris Visagie, who replace Julie Dockrill and Bev Slooten, both of whom have served a three-year term.

Special mention and thanks were given to Bev Slooten, who has completed 6years, most of which has been as Chairperson. A huge commitment by Bev and we truly appreciate this.

Honorary Member:            Bruce Borrell became an Honorary Member of the Club.

Bruce has and continues to be an active supporter of the club and has been a member for 25 years.

The new Rotary Club of Timaru Caps & Beanies have arrived and been distributed or those who ordered them, already it looks like a repeat order will be required for more beanies, they look very smart, and just the thing for keeping us warm whilst taking part in our activities during the winter months.   If you would like to order, please contact Secretary Lionel.  $20 each for the cap or beanie.

Several members will be involved with the SC Rural Support Trust – Farm Break - Wednesday 3rd July - we will have the Hot Dog Van there, cooking chips only, if you would like to assist as a “runner”, (between the van and the kitchen) for further information, please contact Jess Wooffindin.

Lionel and I attended the Waimate Rotary Club changeover on Thursday evening, as Peter Hughes handed over the Presidential chain to Peter Bell, and we joined the District 9999 changeover in Dunedin on Saturday, see the note below.

We look forward to seeing you all for our Club Changeover-Mid-winter Xmas Dinner 9th July – Timaru Town & Country Club $30 per person. (Technically no changeover for us, but a new Rotary year, International President, along with a new theme “The Magic of Rotary.”)

Stay warm, catch up again soon.

Lynette

D9999 Award

At the District 9999 changeover on Saturday 28th June, held in Dunedin, our Club was awarded “The Bill Boyd Significant Impact” District award for The Thaplung Women, Children and Community Health Project.

Recognized for the impact this has had on grassroots health education with a Maternal Child Health focus to a group of health workers that will lead to improved health outcomes for women, children and families in a remote rural area of Nepal.

A special THANKS must go to Jessica Wooffindin, Julie Dockrill and Tina Hewitt who organized and delivered this programme in Nepal, also to Raj Gautum for his dedication, assistance and organization from Nepal.

This team is amazing, and I was so proud of them all and what they have achieved when I accepted this award on their behalf.

Thanks to the club members, family, friends, and Rotarians from many clubs who assisted with fundraising/donations and the RJ & CF Moyes Trust, along with a D9999 District grant, enabling this project to go ahead.  Your support is amazing and very much appreciated.

It feels like a privilege indeed to be involved in this project.

Lynette Wilson, Club President
