Hi Everyone,

Singapore was great, there were so many highlights, we caught up with old friends, made new contacts, attended numerous plenary sessions, and listened to some truly inspiring speakers while at the same time exploring Singapore and its environment. It is great to widen the horizons and learn of some of the amazing projects and achievements being undertaken globally by Rotarians. Catch-up on presentations and speeches from Singapore by signing into the Rotary International website.
Last Saturday, 8th June, members and friends participated in a Wood delivery morning. Thank you to Tony Henderson for organising, ably assisted by Jim Garden, Jenny & Basil Ensor, Paul Dewsberry, Ashley Milliken, Dave Darling, John Rushton, Jess Wooffindin, Lionel Wilson, Lance Wensley, it was a very busy morning, with more than 300 bags of wood plus boxes of kindling delivered to grateful recipients throughout Timaru, my back certainly appreciated the workout!! Further trailer loads were delivered to Family Works Timaru base, and some were picked up by Family Works staff for delivery around Temuka, with St Vinnies picking up 50 bags early this week. A total of around 500 bags have gone out in the past week – well done and THANKS to everyone.
Tuesday evening was a “club night” with some good discussion taking place, and we welcomed two guests /prospective members, Cameron Bishop and Peter Jordan.
Unfortunately, due to covid, we were unable to welcome Shayne Broughton as a new member, so this will be held over until the next meeting.
A show of hands was unanimous for the formalisation of the format of our Club meetings to be held every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, replacing our previous weekly format. This has
been a “Trial” since late last year. Other discussion points: -
- District Changeover luncheon in Dunedin on the 29th of June. Lionel & I will be attending.
- FENZ emergency trailer – Awaiting confirmation of “needs assessment” from local FENZManager.
- RNZWCS: - (Rotary New Zealand World Community Services) request for Repurposing equipment – discussion on supply of surplus walking frames that our club has in storage (collected from Timaru Hospital) for distribution to clubs in the Pacific islands – a working bee is needed to remove wheels and make them “fit for purpose”.
- Rotary Club of Timaru Caps & Beanies: those who replied have been included and the order has now been submitted.
- Club Changeover, Mid-winter Xmas Dinner 9th July – Timaru Town & Country Club $30 per person.
- SC Rural Support Trust – Farm Break - Wednesday 3rd July - we will have the Hot Dog Van there, cooking chips only, around 5pm – is anyone able to assist? – check the link to the roster in this newsletter. For further information, please contact Jess Wooffindin.
- Social events – speakers – Gary Rushworth advised of his “Yorkshire Day” celebration and invited those interested to a potluck 'curry' event, 3rd August 2024.
- Altrusa Quiz night 23rd July
On Thursday evening Lionel & I attended, along with others from our club, the local Repertory production of “Anne of Green Gables” at the Little Theatre. It was a great show, thanks to Tony Henderson for organising.
Our next formal meeting is the 25th June – 2nd part of Annual General Meeting.
Stay warm, catch up again soon.
