What a fun evening on Tuesday, as we welcomed members from Altrusa, for our “Quiz night”. This is our first Quiz together since 2021, when prior to that, it was held on a more regular yearly basis. To make things a little fairer, we had teams of four, with a split of two each from Rotary and Altrusa. I must confess to being in the winning team, but with three ex teachers in the team, someone had to write down the correct answers, (that was me).
It was lovely to welcome some partners along from each club, also Peter Jordan, attending as a prospective member and Andrea Lord transferring back following some years working in Christchurch where she was a member of the Christchurch Sunrise club.
In addition, Gavin Green, a member of the Howick Rotary club joined us on the first of what we hope will become regular meetings as he and his wife now reside in Timaru, although his work still takes him back to Auckland frequently. He is already planning to be involved in our club activities when he is in town, starting with wood deliveries this weekend.
The first Rotary Community Group gathering for Presidents is to be held Saturday 3rd August, in Geraldine, which I will be attending, and this will be our first under the new “Regionalisation structure”.
This is also the same day as Gary Rushworth’s “Yorkshire Day” which I’m also looking forward to attending, a “Beer and a Curry” may be just what’s needed.
Thanks to those of you who volunteered for “wood deliveries” on Saturday, with more bad weather predicted for next week, it will be needed.
Remember, we don’t have a formal meeting again now until Tuesday 13th August (as we only meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month), having said that, we then have an additional club meeting scheduled for 20th August, when we welcome our District Governor, Dave McKissock, on his “official visit” to our club. Please fill in the details on our attendance/apologies page or let Secretary Lionel know if there are any changes, as we are now being charged more rigorously for meals when members don’t turn up, i.e. don’t notify their apologies.
In the meantime, some members still enjoy a casual weekly catch-up meal, same time, same place, partners and friends welcome, no apologies or numbers required. Also, just a reminder, if you haven’t already paid, the Timaru Town & Country subs ($25.00) are now due – payable at the Office or online, NOT at the Bar.
The new Rotary Club of Timaru Caps & Beanies: If you missed out on the last order, and still wish to purchase a new club cap or beanie, please contact Secretary Lionel. $20 each for the cap or beanie.
Stay warm, catch up again soon.
