 President Lynette's Message

Hi everyone,

It seems a long time since our last meeting, but there has certainly been lots going on, with Illuminate taking place over two weekends this year, for 6 nights, we were pretty lucky overall that the weather stayed fine (apart from the first Friday evening, when it was Bloody cold !!  A HUGE thanks to Bev Slooten, Stephen Don, Judy Dolman, Jenny Ensor, Emma Walton-Woodings, Jess Wooffindin, John Ruston, Jim Garden, Lionel Wilson, Greg & Melissa Sugrue, Gary Rushworth, Robyn Peterson, Shayne Broughton, who, along with myself, assisted 15,000 people through the gates and through the Botanical Gardens to experience the amazing light show.  Also, a HUGE thank you to Greg Sugrue for compiling and managing the roster, sometimes a challenge but nothing was a problem, and we appreciate your patience, Greg.  We had so many positive comments and “thanks” In the words of Michael Dewar, Event Organiser, “Thank you so much for your support again this year! Couldn’t do it without you guys”. also, a couple of possible prospective members.

This week we welcomed Diya & Lily, to share their Rotary Science and Technology Forum experience with us.  Diya is a pupil at Craighead School and Lily is attending Roncalli College, and along with Georgia and Tara who came along recently and shared their experiences, were sponsored by our club to attend the forum held in Auckland in January and have now been selected to attend the Forum in London in July this year.  This is a fantastic achievement by the girls, and we are very proud to have been able to support all four of them to attend and in the process, help them to solidify their decisions for future career paths.

We also welcomed Shayne Broughton to our meeting, as a prospective member.  This is the third meeting Shayne has attended.

Recent Bereavement notices of past members:
Louis van den AKKER and Robin Hawkins passed away recently.  Robin was a Past President, Secretary and Honorary member of our club and PHF recipient 1996.
Our thoughts are with their friends and families, with memories of hours spent together 'serving in our Community'.

We have recently received notification from Cheryl Price and Ian Gray, who are now residing in Christchurch and wish to transfer their Rotary membership to Ōtautahi Passport club.  On behalf of club members, we have sent our best wishes to them both and for their future Rotary journey.

Stay warm, catch up again soon.

Lynette
