 President Lynette`s Message

Hi Everyone,

On the afternoons of Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th April, the “Connect for Good” Learning Impact Zoom meetings were held, where inspiring stories of Collaborative, impactful projects, Information on Foundation Grants, and how AI can work for Rotary initiatives were shared by Rotarians from NZ and the neighbouring Pacific islands (Oceania).

These were recorded and will be available to view soon.

Lionel and I presented on the recent “Weekend of Connection”, painting/refurbishment of the Park Centre's fences and the building of Predator Traps.   Andrea Lord also attended.  There was some interesting information shared.

Learning Impact 3: (some may know this as the old “Rotary know how”) is scheduled for 17th May, by zoom.

The Wishing Well has recently been cleared and a record amount of money retrieved, could this be a result of the recent fantastic upgrade? Or more Cruise ships? Maybe both have played a part.  A suggestion that we include a QR code is being investigated.

From the Board meeting 8.4.25:
  • Draft 2025-26 Budget was discussed.  It was agreed to keep the subs for the coming year at the same level as current.  ($250.00).
  • Club AGM: - 24th June at our normal club meeting.
  • Changeover:  8th July – Venue to be confirmed.

Ashburton Rotary Club visit: - April 22nd.  This will replace our normal club meeting at TT&C.  We will car-pool, with members travelling together to attend the meeting in Ashburton, with the Ashburton club.  If you wish to take part, and haven’t already, please let Lionel know.

The next Charitable Trust meeting will be held on Tuesday 29th April – a week later than usual, due to members attending the Ashburton meeting on the 22nd April.

Our next club meeting will be held Tuesday 13th May at the Timaru Town & Country Club 5:30pm onwards, as usual.

See my notes on our last guest speaker, RYDA, Kindling, and the CCS 90th Anniversary below.

Catch up again soon,
Lynette

Last Week's Guest Speaker
Roselyn Fauth

Note from President Lynette

Our speaker last week was Roselyn Fauth, recent recipient of the Aoraki Women’s Foundation “Woman of the Year” Award.
She shared an insight into several of her passions, including Art, CPlay and WuHoo Timaru, and the new Historical buildings trail info sheet she has recently produced. These sheets are available from the Library and Museum, and contain some fascinating detail, I have this tagged as an activity for the school holidays.

We also welcomed three guests to our meeting.

Away Meeting
(NEXT WEEK)
Tuesday 22nd April
Ashburton Rotary Club visit

This will replace our normal club meeting at TT&C.

NEXT EVENT:

Aspect Trust Tug-o-War

RYDA
Rotary Youth Driver Awareness

Note from President Lynette

A BIG THANK-YOU to Bev Slooten, Jenny Ensor, Jim Garden, who along with Dave Darling, Lionel and me, assisted with RYDA (Rotary Young Driver Awareness) on the second day, at Levels Raceway on the 9th of April.

This programme is so worthwhile but was in danger of not proceeding in our area due to funding cuts, so thanks to contributions from our club Charitable trust and the Eric Hall Trust, we ensured close to 350 students were able to participate in the programme this year, a fantastic result, one which was greatly appreciated by the RYDA Coordinators.

Kindling Morning
12 April

Note from President Lynette

Last weekend, we had a great turn-out of 20 members, including Honorary and family members, on Saturday morning, for our first “Kindling Day” of the year and managed to chop and fill 67 boxes of kindling to add to our supplies for the winter.  Lionel cooked us some sausages for morning tea, and Andrea supplied freshly baked muffins, to make sure we had enough sustenance,
“Thank You” everyone.

We recently received a Template/stencil for branding the bags used by the Wood project.  This will also be usable on anything else we wish to show our club branding on and will be kept down at the Woodshed.

CCS 90th Anniversary

Note from President Lynette

CCS 90th anniversary celebration 3rd April, was attended by members of our Club, Lionel, me, and Tony Henderson, along with Honorary members Ellwyn Mackie and Ashley Milliken   District Governor Dave McKissock also joined us, and a Certificate was presented. Rotary were instrumental in the creation of CCS, following an idea from a National Rotary Convention in 1935, and the Timaru Branch was the first one opened.
