We enjoyed a lovely meal on Tuesday evening, as we celebrated the change of another Rotary year, and we now work with the new theme “The Magic of Rotary”. It was great to catch up with some of our Honorary members, partners, and guests from other clubs, who joined us, and especially special was little Leo Walton-Woodings, who attended with his Mum, Emma, and sat attentively listening, quietly, on the floor in front of the lectern whilst I was talking. Sooo cute.
It certainly has been a busy time since our last meeting.
At the District 9999 changeover on Saturday 28th June, held in Dunedin, the club was awarded “The Bill Boyd Significant Impact” District award for The Thaplung Women, Children and Community Health Project - recognized for the impact this has had on grassroots health education with a Maternal Child Health focus to a group of health workers that will lead to improved health outcomes for women, children and families in a remote rural area of Nepal.
A special THANKS must go to Jessica Wooffindin, Julie Dockrill and Tina Hewitt who organized and delivered this programme in Nepal, and also to Raj Gautum for his dedication, assistance, and organization from Nepal. This team is amazing, and I was so proud of them all and what they have achieved when I accepted this award on their behalf.
Thanks to the club members, family, friends and Rotarians from many clubs who assisted with fundraising/donations and the RJ & CF Moyes Trust, along with a D9999 District grant, enabling this project to go ahead. Your support is amazing and very much appreciated.
It was fitting that I was able to hand over this award to Jess at our 'mid-winter dinner/changeover' last Tuesday evening, as recognition of the tremendous amount of work she put into making this project happen.
SC Rural Support Trust – Farm Break event on Wednesday 3rd July at The Caroline Bay Hall. Thanks to Bev Slooten, Greg Sugrue, Tony Henderson and Lionel Wilson, who, along with myself, cooked and served Hot Chips. The event attracted approx. 500 people, and along with our Chip van, The Rotary clubs of Timaru North, and Temuka-Geraldine operated BBQs, cooking a variety of meats and onions. I was certainly pleased to be in the van as it was a cold evening. A great collaboration of our three local Rotary clubs working together to support a community health and well-being event.
The new Rotary Club of Timaru Caps & Beanies: If you missed out on the last order, and still wish to purchase a new club cap or beanie, please contact Secretary Lionel. $20 each for the cap or beanie.
Stay warm, catch up again soon.
