They keep telling us Spring is here, now it is September!!
Some people say Spring begins on the first of September, they are typically using the Meteorological definitions of seasons, which defines seasons by calendar months.
This contrasts with Astronomical definitions which is defined by the earth tilt and its orbit around the sun, marked by two equinoxes and two solstices. The spring equinox arrives on Tuesday 23rd September at 6.19am this year and the summer solstice is Monday 22nd December at 4.02am!  - What’s your pick?

Birthdays – No Birthdays this coming meeting

Outcomes of our last Charitable Trust meeting in late August.
  • The applicant closure date of the Rotary science and Technology forum was last Friday, we have one applicant for this programme. Our applicant will be interviewed, please watch this space for an update on details.
  • An application from Age Concern (S.C) for a new Laptop was agreed, and trustees provided $$ toward this equipment needed to keep providing support to many elderly people in South Canterbury.
  • Another motion agreed to was for the Charitable Trust to release funding to the Rotary Club of Kathmandu for their three (3) toilet project to support female pupils to have appropriate toilets, in three Rural High schools in Nepal. The funds to be sent to Kathmandu have come from the Richmond Rotary club in Nelson and our own Charitable Trust as well.
