President Peter's Message

I had positive comments about last week's quiz with Altrusa, especially from those in a winning team!

Ian Riseley, the current President of Rotary International has challenged every Rotary Club to make a difference by planting a tree for each of its members.

Apart from the obvious environmental benefits, I think this could possibly be an ongoing project we as a club could be proud of. To discuss this, a Tree Planting Steering Group has been formed with Jess Hewitson, Lynette Wilson, Bruce Borrell and myself. Bruce will be liaising with the Timaru North Club.

Next Tuesday, the committee chairs will be updating us with their latest news and Jim Garden has arranged a mystery speaker.

Looking ahead, our District Governor Bruce Cowan will be visiting us twice this year, once for his official DG's visit on October 17th and again as a guest at our Club's 90th anniversary celebration.

THIS WEEK
Tuesday 29th August
CLUB NIGHT
Chair people will give progress reports and discuss ideas for future Club activities.
Chair: PE Andrea Lord

NEXT WEEK
Tuesday 5th September
Bryan Blanchard - Hospital Radio Presenter
Bryan has been involved with the Hospital Radio since 1991.

The radio is run by volunteer broadcasters who play music and memories of yesteryear from the Radio FM Studio, which is located in a special room upstairs in the Garden Block of the Timaru Hospital.

Our Very Own Cover Girl!

Just look who is gracing the cover of the latest IKEA magazine in Sweden. None other than our own Past President Anne Carnie, along with Jan and Martin Chappell from the Queenstown club! That's her peeking out from behind the big K ...

Anne is currently in Sweden on a Group Friendship Exchange visit. She also stayed with Lena and Perake Wiberg - the couple Gilly hosted in February when District 2400 visited us. Small world?

Quiz Night with Altrusa - good fun!

Annual quiz night fun as always.

Congrats to Altrusa team whose big gamble on the final question saw them romp to victory. Rotary's most successful team had to settle for second prize!

Many thanks to Peter and Lorraine as quizmasters.

New Members' Directory

The new 2017-18 Members' Directory is available; if you haven't got yours yet ask Robyn Baldwin for a copy.

As always there are a couple of corrections needed:

On page 8, Jenny Ensor's husband should be Basil, not Jenny!

On page 10, our newest member, Keslie Parish, joined in 2017, not 1905 (which is actually the date Rotary was formed).

If you find any other corrections needed please let Gilly know and we'll put the details in the Bulletin.

The Directory also has details of committees, and club duties.

If you're a smartphone or tablet user there are handy Android and iPhone ClubRunner apps with all member contact details.
