We continue with Rotary business, even though you may have thought we were travelling to “Hell in a Handbasket” with the political gamesmanship on our planet at present. Artemis 2 also proceeds to the moon and back, at least they co-operate as a crew, even if the toilet does not!! We hope you all had an enjoyable break over last weekend and the rain and cold wind did not stop your appreciation of the holiday!
We have exciting adventures coming over the coming Days, Weeks, and months:
A HUGE thank you to everyone who assisted at the “Rock and Hop”.
This is usually a big day in the van. A big thank you to Jess Wooffindin, Jenny and Basil Ensor, Bev Slooten, Lynette Wilson, Jim Garden, Margaret and Ralph Burrell and Peter Jordan.
The Club Board has received Membership applications from Margaret Burrell and Ralph Burrell. The Membership committee and the club Board are happy to submit Margaret and Ralph to Club members as new members of our club (this is the first of two notifications to members).
The Coastal seating project is coming together, JMAC joinery are manufacturing the seats at present. Members of the club are checking the seat spacing with a person from the TDC next week.
We are looking for suggestions for possible Speakers at our meetings in 2026, suggestions to Secretary Lynette.
Seven Rotarians and partners (John and Vicki Rushton, Tony Henderson, Andrea Lord, Lynette and Lionel Wilson and Gavin Green) joined members from the Temuka-Geraldine Rotary Club at the “Bonnie Day Brewery and Taproom” next door to Geraldine Cheese just off Talbot Street in Geraldine on Monday 30th March. President Scott from Temuka-Geraldine Rotary Club demonstrated options on how to cook halloumi cheese on a BBQ and Paul Fitzgerald spoke on making cheese and some of the secrets you need to know! The beer was great and was enjoyed by all who attended.
Halloumi cheese (a short explainer), this is a firm, brined, high-melting-point cheese is perfect for frying or grilling, offering a salty flavour and squeaky texture. It is a popular, versatile vegetarian meat substitute.
We are into the Budget round for the Club and the Charitable Trust over the next few weeks.
Tony Henderson advises that we will be having a “Kindling” morning down at the “Hayes Street” shed on Saturday 18th April, put this in your diary as a place to be!
Our club Centennial is in late 2027, I checked in with Rotary International to confirm when our Club Charter was signed by Rotary International President Arthur H Sapp of the Rotary club of Huntington Indiana USA and our charter was dated 10th November 1927. We have received a replacement copy of the Charter from Rotary International.
Rob Rhodes and Colin Shore, stalwarts of the Rotary club of Timaru North have passed during easter weekend, our condolences to Jo and the Rhodes family, and to Colins family as well.
